Alright

Yes.

Not much to say, but after watching the injury happen on Saturday this is really, really good to see. War eagle, Zac.

This is not 2008

This is not 2008, because the 2008 Auburn would have lost to Ole Miss on Saturday. Furman would be the only remaining win on the schedule, and we would have been headed to Birmingham for a date with Legion Field sometime in late December.

This is 2009, and in 2009, Auburn beat Ole Miss, still has a chance at eight wins, and possibly a New Year's day (or later) bowl.

Also, I want that white UnderArmour jacket Gene Chizik wears on the sidelines. It's awesome.
Hotter than Antoine Carter.

Rise and fall

It's been a busy fall. Plenty of time for school, football, something that resembles a social life, and not much else. It was pretty dang fun to watch Auburn start with five wins with an offense that had everyone talking.

The thing is, in the back of my mind, I couldn't shake the thought that maybe, just maybe, this team wasn't really that good. It's the same team from last year, worse on defense personnel-wise and a little better on offense with the addition of McCalebb. Chris Todd is still Chris Todd, which is not all a bad thing. He clearly works his butt off, and him still being at Auburn is, in my mind, a testament to his character. There are no SEC-caliber receivers, regardless of what we saw in the first month of the year.

Nevertheless, this same team was putting up the best offensive performance anyone has had all year against Tennessee just two weeks ago. There's a saying: You're never as bad as you look when you lose, and you're never as good as you look when you win (or something, I'm not good at sayings). I think that holds true here. We're not as bad as we looked last night. Tuberville didn't leave us with much. Laud the man for what he did in the good years, but there really isn't much to draw from right now. We don't have the players to compete in the top of the SEC right now.

We can compete in the middle of the SEC, and if anyone is watching the SEC this year, you'll notice that teams seem to fall into three categories: Florida and Alabama, the middle, and Vanderbilt. Kentucky is in the middle. They hung with Florida and Alabama. They're not a terrible team. Neither is Arkansas. Neither is Auburn.

Give it time. Rich Rodriguez made his team worse his first year at Michigan. Nick Saban went 6-6 his first year. Urban Meyer didn't exactly tear the SEC apart right away. No one can come into a situation like Gene Chizik is doing and make what Auburn has into an SEC championship contender overnight. It was fun to imagine that, but it's not reality and most rational people knew that.

Maybe Chris Todd's shoulder is messed up again. Maybe the defense is so devoid of depth they won't hold anyone in the fourth quarter. Or maybe Auburn will come out next week and put up a fight against LSU. That's the beauty of sports, the unpredictable.

Give it time.
